We have recently just started an Alumni chapter here at my school. One of the main goals of the Alumni group is to give out a scholarship for the senior class. I was wondering if anyone's chapter gave scholarship or their alumni could share with me the process, application, and how to raise money? Any advice would be great.
Our Alumni group has been giving out between 1 and 3 scholarships each year for almost 20 years. It is $250 for each semester for the student's first year. In the past, they have raised money through a BBQ and auction. It was great for many years, but it ended up being more work than what the money was worth. For about 5 years, our alumni group has smoked pork butts and briskets a few times a year and sold mostly to the teachers here at school. Generally, it is right before holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They bought their own larger smoker a few years ago. It was used, and owned by an alumni member, so they got a good deal on it. They also borrow another one from another local FFA chapter when they cook. Usually, they cook between 50-75 pieces of meat, and profit $1000-1500 each time. It works great, and our teachers and administrators love to buy it.
