I am doing a 2 units one on birds and one on ornamental fish in my animal health class. I am looking for activities for them to do but not finding much that is working. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Couple of things spring to mind. External anatomy and species id. If you have a local pet store, a field trip is a good way to introduce them to the business of small animals. If you don't, how about a guest speaker that knows a good amount about both. If that's not possible, maybe a local vet could assist you with some "specimens" for dissection or be a guest speaker. Had another thought. Have them make their own species flash cards. If you've got computer access for them, give them a list of species to look up with specific info to find and get them to copy and paste a decent picture into a word document where they can shrink them so they'll fit onto a notecard and they will all fit on one page for printing. If you don't have computer access for all of them, you can create the one page of pictures and provide copies to everyone and they can ol' school style cut and paste them onto flashcards. You will want to create a lesson that provides the info for them to fill in the info on the flashcards. Nina
