Help!!
I have been given the task of teaching a greenhouse/horticulture class next semester, which starts next week!! Since the beginning of this school year, I have searching for resources and such but I have yet to find a good curriculum or unit plan. I have never grown anything in my life and I am really nervous to screw this up, as it is a big event for our school when we sell all the plants to the community in May. I have been given no guidance or standards or anything. All I have to go off of is the materials the last teacher purchased last year. I made that purchase, which was a ton of soil, mulch, sticks for labeling, seeds, containers to grow in, etc. As a science teacher, I want to incorporate some labs, research, etc. I just don't know where to start or how to run the class effectively and smoothly. Any ideas, resources, suggestions, etc would be amazing!!
I am right there with you. I eased into the greenhouse a little bit last year. First thing is call the company you ordered through and talk with a rep they will make it as easy as they can for you and make you look great while doing it. If they don't then find a new dealer and rep. A great time killer in class and make it more science based you can have the students mix their own media if it is not all pre mixed. Then have them track their plants growth once per week and put it into a spread sheet. Use your imagination kids eat those little things up. Good luck.
