Potential Swine Facility

Discussion created by Kyle Woolston on Nov 1, 2017

Greetings Agriculture Educators!

Our school is currently in the process if raising funds to construct a swine facility on our school property as a part of our Agriculture department.  As part of our curriculum, we bring gilts/sows into the school and house them currently in our greenhouse at the beginning of the school year.  We currently have 4 females on hand, as well as tracking 4 females off campus.  The gilts/sows are bred and tracked throughout the gestational period, and farrowed out at the school.  We then wean and sell the offspring for show animals to local youth.  We plan on increasing the size of the new building to handle 8-12 females at the school, instead of having the females split between on and off campus.  We are looking for any other schools that have similar programs/setups.  We are looking for possible equipment/tools/needs for such a program to operate effectively.  We have some now, but with the potential new facilities, we have the opportunity to better our situation.  Any help will be greatly appreciated! If you have questions feel free to ask.
