When I am gone at the National Convention I will be in the forestry unit of my Natural Resources class. We have already done a tree ID project and have done timber cruising and Timber stand improvement. I was thinking about things to do with harvesting/reforestation, maybe something with chainsaws etc.
Any suggestions or ideas would be great!

Map reading is always a fun one that will get kids interested and keep them occupied for a few days, easy. I have my 7th graders draw their dream island and give them different requirements (shelter, food sources, clean, fresh water source, entertainment) and let their imaginations run wild as long as they are school appropriate.
Then, I start talking with them about compass reading, cardinal direction, and slowly make our way into learning about the ins and outs of map reading. When they are comfortable with it, I move them over to applying the same concepts to their dream islands. From there, they can create a treasure map to lay over it and quiz each other based on sections, range, townships, etc.
