I have neat way (I think so anyway!) of teaching common livestock terminology to 8th graders/freshmen. I realized earlier this year that perhaps not all students know simple livestock terminology. I realized this when I began talking about barrows and gilts and I had a roomfull of blank expressions (a frequent reaction!). Luckily, I was able to steal/borrow this idea from another teacher. Some of you may already do something like this, but my studets liked it enough that I thought I would share.
Basically I hand out a terminology notes page (attached) and go through as simple powerpoint (I can send it if you want it). Once the students have the chart filled out, we play bingo (card and pieces attached). I give prizes (candy, FFA pencils, or whatever) to the winners. I let them use their notes for the first few games, them make them put them away for the rest. I also have a quiz attached that I use.
I hope this helps somebody!
