Job Description

The Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education seeks a Collegiate Assistant Professor in agricultural education. This is a 9-month (academic year), promotable appointment. For details on this track, see https://faculty.vt.edu/faculty-handbook/chapter05.html. The successful candidate will join a team of teaching and learning faculty with an emphasis on agricultural education. We are seeking an individual who can contribute by providing teaching and outreach efforts focused on contemporary agricultural science education, informed by the Vibrant Virginia initiative. Specifically, this person will work with the faculty team to serve school-based agricultural education, cooperative extension, and other local stakeholders in delivering contemporary agricultural education programs that address emerging community and economic development challenges.

The successful candidate will have a record of pedagogical achievement, lead agricultural education outreach initiatives, and develop an applied research and scholarship agenda that addresses the state and regional workforce development needs in both rural and urban communities. Additional summer outreach efforts, such as directing the Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture and conducting teacher professional development programs, are an expectation for this position and will be separately compensated outside of the 9-month (academic year) contract.
