I chose this assignment to discuss for Chapter 7, and how it can be made EPIC. I love this lesson because it very easily hits the "E" of experiential and the "P" for Participatory. Students are going to take what they have learned up to this point, and being to apply it in a manner that will excite them. One suggestion I have for making the assignment "Image Rich" is to include photos for the previous years luncheon, or to include photos of some of the foods the culinary students would be making. To devolve into the "Connected" piece some more, I would consider getting the floral kids together with the culinary kids, and let them have conversations together about the theme and what it means to them. Did the culinary kids choose "Italian" just because they like Italian food, or because of the Italian culture? Students could work together to research the Italian culture, and to see what floral design looks like in Italy. Also, there might be ways to have different Italian herbs brought into the flower arrangements, to tie the theme's together.
All in all, I loved this lesson because it's a real-world example and will draw on all of their past knowledge to create the final product!
