MY FAVORITE PROJECT OF ALL TIMES!!!!!!
Topics that have to be covered before this project:
- Drawing Tools
- Drawing to Scale
- The Outdoor Room Concept (and use areas)
- The Landscape Design Process (client interview, etc)
- Plant Selection
- Principles of Design
I cover all of these topics, then I show two TV episodes, one Jami Duri The Outdoor Room and then one Landscaper's Challenge (where 3 designers have the same client and compete to win the business.
I pre-assign design teams and their houses and client interview information. I put together large packets with the instructions and the rubric on the outside and the client information and the house plan and pictures on the inside. I also include a the "timeline" as a daily plan and table for the students to divide the responsibilities and set deadlines. My students have a hard time with a large scale project, so I try to break it down into smaller pieces (modify and adjust). To find the house plan and pictures, go to www.dreamhomesource.com. The house plan numbers are on the top of the client information sheets. You should have everything that you need besides the dates, large manilla folders, and TV episodes. Have fun and please let me know if you try this and how it turns out!
