As 2019 begins to wind down, we look back at the professional development opportunities that were offered throughout the year. An offering of CASE, the Agricultural Business Foundations (ABF) BriefCASE training was hosted at nine different locations, allowing 403 teachers to add a new course to their classrooms. The Agricultural Business Foundations BriefCASE allowed participants to engage in four to six hours of professional development. Farm Credit East is the proud sponsor of the Agricultural Business Foundations course development.
“The CASE ABF Curriculum utilizes a student centered approach to teaching business fundamentals, allowing me to support and engage, rather than teach from the front,” said Jesse Faber, a CASE Master Teacher from Illinois. “I am most excited for the intentional approach to utilizing components of each unit to develop a business plan.”
Agricultural Business Foundations is a semester-long course that introduces students to business management practices in agriculture. The course engages individuals in activities and projects while introducing viable business plans. The Agricultural Business Foundations course is an elective offering from CASE, with a curriculum including starting a business, financial documents, risk management and writing a business plan. The layout of this course allows for the opportunity for the application to multiple pathways.
“I have always struggled to make agribusiness interesting and meaningful for my students. The CASE Agricultural Business Foundations course draws students in by allowing them to apply business principles to a business project that is aligned with their personal interests.” said David Gibbens, a CASE Lead Teacher from Nebraska.
Along with the other extensive professional development opportunities at the NAAE Convention, CASE is happy to announce the offering of an Agricultural Business Foundations BriefCASE at the convention. The BriefCASE willbe held on December 3 from 12:30-5:30 pm pacific time and the registration fee is $250. The NAAE Convention will be in Anaheim, California from December 3-7.
