Workshop materials for this CLASSROOM TESTED use of simulations and interactive Excel spreadsheets available in most schools on

most computers are attached below.

The Workshop Overview:

Risk management is the key to 21st agribusiness, agritourism and other agricultural endeavors that characterize

the work of the new century farmer. In this workshop participants will learn how a familiar technology, Excel

spreadsheets, that are available on all Windows computers can be used to understand the individual and social

costs of injuries and how to reduce risks and costs. The highly graphical, interactive and informative

spreadsheet programs have many worksheets that support a three step process for risk management: a risk

analysis, a cost analysis and a decision analysis as part of a smart agricultural economic approach. The

approach can be generalized to any situation involving risk, such as lab safety. The workshop CD includes the

Cost Tools, lesson plans, teacher response and feedback information and research on these classroom-tested,

effective materials.

The Materials below are the Simulation "Brad's Last Ride"  a story about two boys and an ATV injury and the associated BLR Cost Tools that

show the actual costs, both to the individuals and to society of this injury.
