Does your school course schedule have you crunched for time? Are you worried you won’t be able to provide your students with all the resources, information, and experiences that come with a full CASE course? Are you interested a condensed version of a CASE course?
Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE) is now offering BriefCASE professional development opportunities. BriefCASE professional development events are one-day sessions designed to provide teacher certification for semester-long or shortened CASE courses. BriefCASEs are the perfect addition to state conference professional development. These modular courses can be incorporated into existing secondary education courses or implemented independently. BriefCASE courses vary in length, but are not a full year of curriculum.
This year, CASE is excited to offer several different opportunities for teachers to complete the Agricultural Business Foundations (ABF) BriefCASE. This course introduces students to business management in agriculture. It is structured to provide students with foundational agribusiness knowledge, as they investigate, experiment, and learn how to develop a business plan, problem solve, and communicate as professionals. For a quick snapshot of what this looks like, students in the course will create cash flow statements to learn about supply and demand and risk management, utilize balance sheets to measure the health of enterprises, and develop a business plan that includes information investors, bankers, and additional stakeholders need to support a new business. After completion of the ABF course, students will be able to take the skills they have developed and put them to practice in a variety of CASE program of study pathways.
The Agricultural Business Foundations (ABF) BriefCASE is proudly sponsored by Farm Credit East and the New Jersey Agricultural Leadership Fund, in memory of former employee Joshua Geary. Thank you Farm Credit East for providing this opportunity for our agriculture teachers.
