The newest addition to the CASE Pathway is the Mechanical Systems in Agriculture (MSA) course. As the specialization course for the agricultural engineering pathway, MSA offers numerous areas of study, including:
- Electrical Systems
- Structural Systems
- Energy Systems
- Machine Service and Maintenance
- Geographic Information and Global Position Systems
- Mechanical Design and Management
These areas of study are designed to provide students with rigorous applications in the agricultural engineering field. Throughout the course, students apply technical skill while becoming competent in the process used to operate, repair, engineer, and design agricultural tools and equipment.
“I am looking forward to getting this course started,” said Carl Aakre, Agricultural Engineering Pathway Coordinator and MSA course writer. “I am excited to take my own ideas and expand upon them with the help of others to kick off the writing for this course.”
The course will begin to take shape this fall at the MSA Course Development meeting, November 3-5 in Des Moines, Iowa, where 20 content specialists will plan and discuss the learning and performance objectives for the course. The individuals involved were selected based upon their knowledge and expertise in agricultural mechanics and with CASE Introduction to Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) and Agricultural Power and Technology (APT) courses, including current agriculture teachers, industry professionals, and post-secondary institution representatives. Their input and ideas will be used as the course is written over the next several months.
