What's New? A Rundown of New Features in Communities of Practice

Welcome to our updated Communities of Practice site! For those who have been long-time Communities of Practice users, the resource sharing you know and love are still the same, but we have added a few great features.

 

New Home Page

Instead of just a list of items in the order they're posted to CoP, the new home page uses your usage patterns, the things you follow, and top and trending items to show content the site things you'll find interesting and relevant. Still want to see that chronological list? Click the all activity link. You'll get that chronological list, plus a new feature - the ability to post directly from the top of the page, and select where you want your post to appear.

 

 

Search, History and Bookmarks

Clicking on the magnifying glass on the top right of any page will bring up your search, history and bookmarks bar. Just like before, search starts to return results as soon as you start typing, so you may find what you're seeking there, or you can hit enter for an expanded list and the ability to filter by date, author and more.

 

 

This box is also where you can find the people, places and documents you have most recently viewed. Click on the magnifying glass, then on the History link.

 

 

Likewise, any bookmarks you create can be accessed by first clicking on the magnifying glass, then on Bookmarks.

 

 

News Streams

Also on the home page, you'll notice the ability to quickly change your view to see what you're following and your email watches. In addition, you can use the plus symbol to create your own stream of items, people and places you want to easily watch. You may also notice streams that we've created to help keep you on top of news (for instance, the Community Help stream, which makes sure all CoP users see any blog posts that happen in the Help & FAQ community.) You can click on any of these streams at any time to see what's new there.

 

 

Your View

You can now customize what you see when you come to Communities of Practice as completely as you'd like by using Your View. To access your view, click on the inbox icon at the top of the page (the little bell), then select Your View from the menu on the left. By using the Edit Page function at the top right of the screen, you can pick and choose what you see on the Your View Page.

 

 

 

If you always want to see Your View the first thing when you log in to Communities of Practice, follow these steps:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow just to the right of your avatar.
  2. Select Preferences
  3. In the Personal Landing Page section, select Inbox.
  4. Save
  5. Go back to your inbox by clicking on the little bell at the top of the page.
  6. Select Your View from the menu on the left.
  7. Click the little pushpin that appears next to Your View. This pins Your View as the first thing you see when you go to your inbox.
