Since we've updated Communities of Practice, we have had reports from some people that when they load the site, they get a strange-looking jumble of links and images, like this:

stylesheet-error.jpg After working with Jive, the company that hosts the CoP platform, we think the problem is that some networks block the stylesheet that tells CoP how to arrange it's components into a nice, neat, readable format. If you're seeing this when you log into Communities of Practice, try asking your network administrator to unblock the following two URL's:

Hopefully that will fix the problem.

If you have any other issues, or this doesn't resolve your view of CoP, please contact me, CoP administrator Julie Fritsch at

Happy CoP'ing!

The Jive Daily app is a great way to use Communities of Practice on your phone or tablet. Through the free app, you can quickly, search, comment and post, and get notifications when something you’re following is updated.

Here’s the step-by-step to get the app and get connected!

On the Apple App or Google Play store, search for Jive Daily. It’s a free app that looks like this:

Download the app, then open it on your device. The first screen you see may ask you to enter your email address. Instead, choose the link at the bottom that says “or enter community URL.”

Once you’re on this screen, enter the URL for Communities of Practice – Click next.

The next screen will prompt you to log in. VERY IMPORTANT – instead of entering your email address as prompted, enter your CoP USERNAME and password.

Congratulations! You’re connected! To explore and post, use the icons at the bottom of the screen, or touch the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.

Get Notifications from the App

To be alerted when someone messages you, mentions you, comments on or shares something you’ve posted, click the avatar icon in the top left corner of the screen. On the following page, click Mobile Push Notifications.

On this screen, use the sliders to turn on the notifications you want. You can also choose to receive these notifications when someone posts in a group you follow or by people you follow.

Following these steps should get you set up to use Communities of Practice on your mobile device.

Welcome to our updated Communities of Practice site! For those who have been long-time Communities of Practice users, the resource sharing you know and love are still the same, but we have added a few great features.

New Home Page

Instead of just a list of items in the order they're posted to CoP, the new home page uses your usage patterns, the things you follow, and top and trending items to show content the site things you'll find interesting and relevant. Still want to see that chronological list? Click the all activity link. You'll get that chronological list, plus a new feature - the ability to post directly from the top of the page, and select where you want your post to appear.

Search, History and Bookmarks

Clicking on the magnifying glass on the top right of any page will bring up your search, history and bookmarks bar. Just like before, search starts to return results as soon as you start typing, so you may find what you're seeking there, or you can hit enter for an expanded list and the ability to filter by date, author and more.

This box is also where you can find the people, places and documents you have most recently viewed. Click on the magnifying glass, then on the History link.

Likewise, any bookmarks you create can be accessed by first clicking on the magnifying glass, then on Bookmarks.

News Streams

Also on the home page, you'll notice the ability to quickly change your view to see what you're following and your email watches. In addition, you can use the plus symbol to create your own stream of items, people and places you want to easily watch. You may also notice streams that we've created to help keep you on top of news (for instance, the Community Help stream, which makes sure all CoP users see any blog posts that happen in the Help & FAQ community.) You can click on any of these streams at any time to see what's new there.

Your View

You can now customize what you see when you come to Communities of Practice as completely as you'd like by using Your View. To access your view, click on the inbox icon at the top of the page (the little bell), then select Your View from the menu on the left. By using the Edit Page function at the top right of the screen, you can pick and choose what you see on the Your View Page.

If you always want to see Your View the first thing when you log in to Communities of Practice, follow these steps:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow just to the right of your avatar.
  2. Select Preferences
  3. In the Personal Landing Page section, select Inbox.
  4. Save
  5. Go back to your inbox by clicking on the little bell at the top of the page.
  6. Select Your View from the menu on the left.
  7. Click the little pushpin that appears next to Your View. This pins Your View as the first thing you see when you go to your inbox.

At long last, you can access your groups and communities on the go through Communities of Practice. When you visit on your phone or tablet, you'll see the option to open the site in Jive Daily or your browser. Both have advantages.

Jive Daily App - mostly for consumption

The Jive Daily App is free, and available from the App Store or Google Play Store. Search for Jive Daily, and look for the app with this icon:

After you install the app, you'll be prompted to enter the URL of your community. Enter, then log in with your regular Communities of Practice information. The Jive Daily app is more limited than the entire mobile site. It's designed to give you the ability to quickly see what's happening in your groups and communities.

Mobile View - get it all

When you open CoP in your mobile browser, you get exactly the same experience as on a big screen, just optimized for mobile. You can still log in, search, browse and create content. You can add the site to your home screen (or home page on Android devices) to create an icon you can tap to take you directly to the site.

More training to come

We'll provide updates and training on CoP mobile throughout the fall and at NAAE Convention in Las Vegas. If you have any questions about how to access CoP on your mobile device, contact me at Julie Fritsch to set up training, or post a question here in the Communities of Practice Help & FAQs community.
