What Does Not Kill Us Only Makes Us Stronger.

Blog Post created by Charles Sappington on Mar 9, 2012

When you or someone you know is very ill and feel miserable, gets better, the feeling of finally being well again give one a sense of strength and empowerment.  I have gone through that recently and as I finally get better and all of the bad scenarios for my condition have fallen by the way side, I have a sense strength and resilience; I feel much stronger and I am ready to take on the world again.

In Ag Education, we can use the same analogy when our profession is attacked by groups or individuals that may seem to have our profession and student’s best interest at heart but in the end are actually holding us back.  Our members need to come back stronger than ever and advocate to these groups and individuals of what changes we need or do not need.  The fight against the changes in child labor laws and for the support for the restoration of Perkins Funding is still front and center and requires our full attention.

Congress is now starting the budget and appropriations process FY 13 and both the House and Senate are circulating “dear colleague” letters which ask other member to support Perkins funding.  The House letter is led by the Congressional CTE Caucus co-chairs, Reps. Thompson (R-PA) and Langevin (D-RI), and the Senate letter is led by Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT). Once signatures are collected, the letters will be sent to the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittees in the House and Senate.

Now is the time to call your representatives and senators and speak to Education LA and ask them to sign the letters of support for CTE funding.

Communities of Practice will be closed 3/17 – 3/25 because the website will be upgraded to the newest operating system which will have lots of new features, better organization and bugs fixed.  When CoP comes online again you will not need to re-register but your previous bookmarks will not work and you will need to recreate them.
