Apply for XLR8 2017
Retaining quality, experienced teachers is important to the future of agricultural education. That's why we developed XLR8 — the eXcellence in Leadership for Retention professional development program — to meet the needs of mid-career agriculture teachers.
The XLR8 program is for NAAE members who have been teaching between 7 and 15 years. Our goals for XLR8 participants are:
  • professional development specific to this stage of your career
  • leadership development with the goal of helping you mentor other teachers
  • an increase in your overall career longevity and satisfaction

SPARK:  Women in Agribusiness Podcast Series
Sara Steever, the president of Paulsen, an ag marketing firm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has an ongoing podcast series called Spark: Women in Agribusiness, where she interviews top females in a variety of agriculture-related positions. The interviews are short and interesting, and would be great during a career exploration unit. You can find them at or by searching Stitcher or iTunes for Spark: Women in Agribusiness.
Communities of Practice Highlights

Vets on Call
Presented by Zoetis, the Veterinarians on Call YouTube channel features real-life vets doing a variety of tasks. This week, Dr. José García-López of Tufts University Hospital for Large Animals outside Boston examines Matador, an injured show horse, who is showing lameness in one leg. Apply Now! Semester-Long Living to Serve Grant
FFA Is excited to announce that the fall semester-long Living to Serve grant application is now open and available in both English and Spanish!

Middle and high school chapters may apply for up to $1,200 to support semester-long service-learning projects that address community needs in one of four focus areas: Community Safety; Hunger, Health and Nutrition; Environmental Responsibility and Community Engagement.

$400 Day of Service Mini-Grants
Does your FFA chapter have a service event planned to kick-off the coming school year? Maybe you are hosting a school supply drive or want to put an LTS Plan, created at WLC, into action. FFA Day of Service Mini-Grants are available to middle school, high school and collegiate/alumni chapters to serve your community in one of four focus areas: Community Safety; Hunger, Health and Nutrition; Environmental Responsibility and Community Engagement.

Applications submitted by the last day of each month are reviewed and awarded by the 15th of the following month. Therefore, applications submitted by August 31st will be awarded by September 15th. To access the application in English or Spanish,


Best Practices and Innovations Conference 2017
Join ACTE in Albuquerque, NM for the 2017 Best Practices and Innovations Conference, September 27-29. The annual Best Practices and Innovations in Career and Technical Education conference showcases the trending issues and best practices for CTE Administrators. Presented by NCLA and ACTE, Best Practices is co-hosted by Central New Mexico Community College and the New Mexico Association for Career and Technical Education.
