Council Vision

To be the collective leadership voice for Agricultural Education in the United States.


  • The mission of The National Council for Agricultural Education is to establish high quality agricultural education programs in America's schools by stimulating:
  • the preparation, retention, and advancement of high quality agricultural educators; the development of programs that prepare students for academic and career success;
  • program innovation and adaptability in response to changing student and industry needs;
  • the use of research-based practices in agricultural education at all levels; and
  • expanded opportunities for students to experience high quality educational programs in agriculture.

Upcoming Council Events
The National Council for Agricultural Education will be very busy the next couple months as several items from their work will be coming to life. As you may have seen in recent updates, the Council has several initiatives about to be activated soon. Click here for all upcoming events from The Council.
AYHC Leader of the Year
This annual award recognizes the adult leader who best exemplifies outstanding leadership to young people within the horse industry. This award is presented each year during the annual AYHC Symposium. The AYHC Leader of the Year nomination is due November 15 each year.
AYHC Student Leader of the Year
This annual award goes to the student leader (age 14-19) who best demonstrates outstanding leadership to their peers in the equine industry. This leader introduces newcomers to the industry, mentors young horsemen and promotes the equine industry within their local community, in fun and innovative ways. The AYHC Student Leader of the Year nomination is due November 15 each year.

Agriculture Future of America (AFA)

AFA Leaders Conference – Applications Due September 9!

2016 National Agriscience Preservice Teacher Program
The National Agriscience Preservice Teacher Program (NAPTP) is committed to promoting inquiry-based teaching methods and the enhancement of science in agriculture to preservice teachers in agricultural education across the nation. This fall, preservice teachers can apply to attend an interactive, hands-on agriscience training program at the 2016 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Selected participants will be challenged to develop inquiry-based lessons to use during their student teaching experience, as well as when they enter the teaching profession. Apply by September 16. NAAE Professional State Association Award Applications Now Available
NAAE will recognize state associations who have aggressively engaged in certain well-planned activities designed to serve the best interest of the members and the profession. Applications are due to your regional vice president by September 1st. Click here for more information and to apply.

National Teach Ag Day Collegiate Commercial Contest
One of the first things someone needs in order to teach agriculture is a degree in agricultural education. The National Teach Ag Day Collegiate Commercial Contest provides college students the opportunity to promote their respective college or university and agricultural education program through a 20-30 second commercial. Teach Ag Research Requests
Nearly every week we get requests for data and research related to agriculture teacher recruitment and retention. If you have research, poster abstracts or articles related to this topic please send the document, image or link to Tabitha will be compiling all related materials and placing them on the Teach Ag website for people to access your hard work and contributions to the profession – and citing you of course.
Communities of Practice Highlights

Vets on Call
Presented by Zoetis, the Veterinarians on Call YouTube channel features real-life vets doing a variety of tasks. This week, follow along as Dr. Hofacre performs a flock check at a typical chicken farm, accompanied by veterinarian Dr. Samantha Pohl and other graduate students from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. FFA Alumni

2016 National FFA Alumni Association Annual Meeting
The 2016 National FFA Alumni Association annual meeting will take place at the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo Friday, Oct. 21 at 2 pm in the Indianapolis Convention Center, Rooms 240-242. During the annual meeting, the membership will receive updates from national staff, hold elections for Alumni Council positions, vote on bylaw amendments, be recognized for achievements and much more. Does your FFA chapter have an idea for a service project to fight hunger? There is still time to apply for a $500 FFA Hunger Heroes Challenge Mini-Grant to make it happen! Any middle school, high school, collegiate or Alumni FFA chapter that are NOT currently funded through the FFA: Food For All program may apply for up to $500 to support a local hunger service project. State Associations can apply for up to $1,000 to host a state-level hunger service event.  Projects must take place in the 2016 calendar year to help FFA reach our goal of 3.5 million meals donated. Judges and Hosts Needed for the 2016 National FFA Convention & Expo
FFA is working to acquire volunteers for a variety of events at the 89th National FFA Convention & Expo. If you or someone you know will already be in Indianapolis and are interested in volunteering on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and/or Thursday, Oct. 20, encourage them to sign up via the links below. We cannot reimburse any travel or parking accommodations. Additionally, in an effort to maintain the integrity of the process, we try to avoid placing judges in areas where their states/schools are represented. Additional details are available upon request. We appreciate your assistance in advance to help secure these volunteers who are critical to the success of the programs.
