The Council

2013 National Agricultural Education SummitReminder registration is open with a special early registration price of $169 if you register by December 7, 2012. Once the early registration is complete the price will go to $269.

The National Council for Agricultural Education will host the 2013 Agricultural Education Summit, January 30 -31, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana.The theme of the 2013 National Agricultural Education Summit,“Recruitment and Retention of Teachers for School Based Agriculture Education” will be the focus of the summit for local, state and national Team Ag Ed participants.

Summit Delivery Formats: (New options utilizing available technology)The 2013 National Agricultural Education Summit will be offered both live in Indianapolis and provided virtually utilizing a live Internet feed.  The new alternative provides the opportunity for states to organize state or regional meetings and participate in the summit main sessions with the opportunity to engage all key members of their Team Ag Ed community to receive the information from the Summit live and in person.  Main sessions will be streamed live and off site participants will be provided the opportunity to submit questions to presenters.  All general sessions and Breakout sessions will be recorded and posted providing access to a wide variety of agriculturaleducation program topics and resources. The recorded sessions will be available throughout the year as references by those needing access to consistent accurate information on a wide variety of programs.

The Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, a Federal government agency, is now
accepting Nominations for the 2013 Agriscience Awards. The awards are presented by the
Foundation in partnership with the American Farm Bureau Federation.

The mission of this partnership is to present the Fourth Annual Agriscience Awards to
recognize, through four monetary awards, one scientist; one current high school educator; and
two current high school students who are judged to exemplify excellence in the field of
agriscience and to highlight the importance of agriculture in the 21st century.
$10,000 Distinguished Agriscience Scientist AwardOne $10,000 Distinguished Agriscience Scientist Award will be presented to a
scientist who is making or has recently made significant and positive contributions in
the field of agriscience.
$5,000 Agriscience Educator AwardOne $5,000 Agriscience Educator Award will be presented to a current high school
educator, with at least five years of teaching experience, and who emphasizes
concepts, principles and applications in their curriculum to promote the study of
agriscience to students.
$1,000 Agriscience Student AwardsTwo $1,000 Agriscience Student Awards will be presented to current high school
students who are making or have recently made significant and positive contributions
related to the study of agriscience.

National FFA Alumni Convention
Convention was new and exciting this year.
The FFA Tailgate and Auction raised over $63,000, FFA Dance hosted 3,500 students, Alumni Nation provided a great Networking atmosphere, Jim McCray was elected President-Elect, ByLaw Changes were voted in and much more. Check out the post-convention press release for more details.

National FFA Alumni Region Realignment
With the approval of the 2012 National FFA Alumni delegate body, the National FFA Alumni will be moving from four to six geographic regions to allow for better coverage and support to state FFA Alumni associations.  Click here to view the impact this change will have on the structure of the National FFA Alumni Council, state groupings, national awards as well as the transition phase that will take place starting in 2013.

The National FFA Alumni Council has spent the past six months reviewing the National FFA Alumni Awards. Click here to review the award programs that have been revamped and those that will be discontinued starting the 2012-2013 membership year.

National FFA Alumni Scholarships Support for State & Local Affiliates – effective 2012/2013 membership year
The National FFA Alumni Council has reviewed current process awarding scholarship units from national to state and local FFA Alumni affiliates based upon their membership achievements.  Click here to see the updated process active for the current 2012-2013 membership year.


CASE Certified Teachers

CASE is excited to announce there are eighteen sites committed to hosting twenty-two CASE Institutes during the upcoming summer. Registration for sites will open the beginning of December. Each site will be capped at 18 participants with sites able to extend participant registrations up to, but not greater than, 20 participants. Many sites’ registrations filled quickly last year so teachers should be sure to register as soon as they have secured the appropriate funding.
